When disasters happen, communities need support quickly. The National Emergency Management Stockpile (NEMS) capability is one of the ways the Australian Government helps make sure essential goods and services can get to the people and places that need them most.

NEMS provides practical support before, during and after disasters through:

• a physical stockpile of goods, including flood barriers, generators and emergency shelters
• a Standing Offer Panel that helps state, territory and local governments shorten the time needed to buy disaster-related goods and services.

These strengthen the range of support available to governments when they respond to major emergencies.

Suppliers play an important role in supporting Australians before, during and after disasters. By keeping the Panel current, NEMA helps make it easier to mobilise practical support when communities are facing a crisis.

New services to support disaster impacted people

The refreshed Panel now includes more goods and services that can help meet immediate and everyday needs for disaster-impacted people, including:

• relocatable kitchen facilities
• catering appliances, equipment and personnel  
• ready to eat and packaged meals
• linen
• laundry services
• sanitation equipment and supplies  
• personal hygiene supplies.  

These services will support people impacted by disasters. They will ensure community members and emergency responders are fed, can keep themselves clean and be comfortable. Governments will be able to access the goods and services they need, when they need them.  

We’ve also added to the NEMS physical stockpile. Ahead of the Higher Risk Weather Season, goods including an additional 1000m of flood wall barriers are ready to deploy when needed.

Products and services can be accessed through purchase, lease or guaranteed holdings.  

The successful tenderers have been vetted and agreements are now in place so their goods and services can be accessed via the Panel for the upcoming Higher Risk Weather Season.  

The NEMS capability

State and territory governments can access the NEMS capability when they request Australian Government support.  

NEMA regularly reviews the Panel to make sure it reflects the goods and services communities may need most. By adding new suppliers and expanding available services, NEMS remains ready to support fast, coordinated responses when disasters strike.
