We deliver programs to reduce the impact of disasters and increase the resilience of all Australians. We also work closely with communities recovering from disasters, while investing in initiatives that will protect against future disasters.

Communities are much better equipped to build back better when, prior to a disaster, we take actions together to mitigate hazards, strengthen response and recovery capacity, and inform decision making.

We manage Australia’s disaster and emergency management efforts by providing informed oversight and guidance.

Disaster recovery

Responding to a disaster can put significant financial pressure on a state or territory government. To help, the Australian Government provides funding to assist with relief and recovery costs.
