In July 2021, the Australian Government announced the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery (BSBR) Grants Program.
The program was part of the $2.2 billion National Bushfire Recovery Fund.
Grants were provided to areas that were disaster declared by states and territories under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
The BSBR Grants Program finished on 31 March 2025.

In February 2022, the Government announced 524 community projects would be funded. With funding for these projects totalling just over $390 million.

In the 2025–26 Federal Budget, the Australian Government committed $17.7 million in 2025–26 to establish the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Program (BCRRP). This amount was revised to $17.1 million in the 2025–26 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO). The BCRRP will support a small number of critical bushfire recovery and resilience projects, that were not able to complete under the former Black Summer Bushfire Recovery (BSBR) Grants Program.
The BCRRP is administered by NEMA in partnership with the relevant state agencies responsible for emergency management. All BCRRP projects must finish by 31 December 2026.
