Successful applicants under Round Two of the Disaster Ready Fund have now been announced. There is $200 million worth of Commonwealth funding being rolled out across Australia, better preparing communities for a range of disasters.

$3.7 million in Commonwealth funding has been awarded to the City of Prospect to complete Stage 1B of the Churchill Road Drainage Upgrade project. The upgrade will:
The project involves construction of a high-capacity stormwater trunk drain. This will reduce flood risk for 88 properties.

Almost $15 million in Commonwealth funding is being invested in a new cyclone shelter. This will be built in North East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
The multi-purpose hub will provide 1800 people from surrounding communities with a safe place to shelter.

A new project will increase flood warning lead times for the Seymour catchment. The Seymour Flood Warning System Improvements Project will see additional rain gauges installed on the Goulburn River. As well as an expansion of the existing flood warning system.
With $79,000 in Commonwealth funding, communities will have access to better flood height prediction data and flood intelligence. Providing earlier warnings before flood events.

A commitment of over $14 million in Commonwealth funding will see a large upgrade to the Leisure Centre in Kununurra. The project will include the construction of new facilities including:
The cyclone-rated upgrade will build community resilience through training and educational programs. During disasters, it will transform into an evacuation centre and emergency response hub, providing a vital safe haven for locals and emergency response teams.

$334,000 in Commonwealth funding will be delivered to the Tasmanian Department of Health to deliver Mental Health and Wellbeing training to Tasmanian state servants and local government staff interacting with disaster impacted communities.
Government staff that may be involved with state-based disaster recovery operations, or work at evacuation centres or call centres will have access to a newly designed training package to ensure communities are adequately supported following disasters.
