What is a resource?

A resource provides information on measures that can improve the resilience of households during a disaster or adverse weather event.

It provides information about checking the tie-down connections in the roof structure. It also discusses upgrading them, if necessary, before replacing damaged roof cladding. It discusses:

  • the high suction loads on roofing
  • site wind classifications using AS 4055
  • using AS 1684 for timber roofs, the NASH standard for steel construction or manufacturers' information for guidance
  • replacing tile roofs with sheet roofs and vice versa.

In addition to the above, the tie-down must be appropriate for the wind classification. This includes:

  • the roof cladding
  • the roof structure
  • into the walls
  • into the ground.
