In July 2021, the Australian Government announced the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program. It helps support communities in eligible Local Government Areas (LGAs) affected by the Black Summer bushfires
The re-opening of the Old Bega Hospital is one out of the 524 projects funded under this program. This important facility was severely damaged by fire in 2004. It’s now been given a new life, restoring it for a new purpose to support the community.
The hospital’s construction was completed in 1888 and is deemed a heritage building of local significance. Community groups currently use the buildings and grounds for various purposes. These include pottery workshops, market days, art classes, and functions. For over 130 years, the hospital has been a hub for the community.
